Man Arrested Near Bunker Hill Following Chase

Kansas Highway Patrol BadgeA man was arrested Sunday morning near Bunker Hill after allegedly stealing a vehicle and fleeing officers.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the man, who's name is not being released, stole a pickup from Radke Implement in Hays Saturday around 7pm and traveled east on Interstate 70.  A KHP trooper spotted the pickup and a low-speed chase ensued from Ellis County into Russell County.  After exiting I-70 near Bunker Hill, the man drove south on 193rd Avenue, turned at an intersection, went into a field and got stuck.  The man fled into a wooded area.  Troopers were unable to locate the man until late Sunday morning when a Bunker Hill resident spotted him just west of town.  The man was arrested and taken to the Ellis County Jail in Hays.

Several charges are being brought against the man, including felony theft and fleeing and eluding an officer.

The Russell County Sheriff's Department assisted the Kansas Highway Patrol along with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.
