USD 407 BOE Approves Project to Convert Lighting at Simpson, Bickerdyke Elementary Schools to LED

USD 407 BOE 1-14-20The Russell County USD 407 Board of Education approved a project to convert lighting at Simpson and Bickerdyke Elementary Schools to LED at the continuation of a special meeting on Friday.

Matt Newbanks, American Electric Lighting Engineer, submitted guidance on a variety of packages and baselines to install LED lights at Simpson and Bickerdyke Elementary Schools. Discussion during a special Board meeting on Tuesday, May 19 raised several questions that yielded the need for additional exploration according to the meeting minutes.

Superintendent Shelly Swayne attempted to reach Newbanks via telephone during Tuesday's meeting without success. The Board voted to table the discussion until Friday, May 22 at 7:45 AM.

The Board reconvened on Friday at the Central Administration Office. Discussion on the LED project resumed and Newbanks provided additional information on packages assembled for the Board's consideration.

Boardmember Brett Mai made a motion to convert all spaces at Simpson and Bickerdyke Elementary Schools with keystone sockets, lighting and occupancy sensors with material costs at $22,093 and accept sealed bids for licensed electricians to complete the installation. Boardmember Deanna Myers seconded the motion. The motion carried five to two. Boardmembers Raeleen Reinhardt and Kathy Wallert voted in opposition.
