New COVID-19 Case Reported in Russell County

CoronavirusThe Russell County Health Department received notification late Tuesday of another positive COVID-19 case of a Russell County resident. That brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the county to 10.

This individual is currently isolated at home and in stable condition. The individual has had possible contact with another case outside of Russell County. No further information will be provided in order to protect the identity of the persons involved and remain compliant with HIPAA regulations. The Russell County Health Department is currently contacting all possible contacts. The contacts who were in close proximity of the individual will be placed into quarantine for 14 days. The health department will continue to monitor all individuals for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 or worsening conditions.

Currently, Russell County has six active COVID-19 cases, four recovered cases, 10 total cases, six isolated in personal homes and 25 quarantined.

A recovered case means the individual has been either fever-free and feeling well for at least 72 hours or in isolation and feeling well for a minimum of 10 days, whichever is longer.

If you develop symptoms of COVID-19 (i.e. fever, cough, shortness of breath, new loss of taste and/or smell, etc.) or are a potential direct contact of someone with a laboratory confirmed case of COVID-19, please contact your health care provider or the Health Department prior to arriving at the facility.

Now more than ever, it is important to limit your risk of exposure and do your part in preventing the spread of COVID-19 by not congregating in large crowds and gatherings, especially if social distancing cannot be observed. Practice good hand hygiene, disinfect highly used surfaces often, wear a mask, and follow guidance from KDHE and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most importantly, stay home when feeling ill. All heath care providers in the community are working together to safely and efficiently address your health care needs.
