Road construction will begin this week on portions of Kansas Highways 18 and 232 in northern and eastern Russell County.
The work on K-18 includes a 1.5-inch overlay beginning at the east U.S. Highway 281 junction near Luray and continuing east to the Lincoln County line.
The work on K-232 includes a 1.5-inch mill and inlay, followed by a 1.5-inch overlay of new asphalt material beginning at the K-18 junction and continuing southeast to the Lincoln County line. The shoulders will be widened on the K-232 section. Both construction operations will cover 22 miles on the two highways.
Flaggers and a pilot car operation will guide one-lane traffic through the work zones during daylight hours. Delays of 15 minutes or less should be expected through the construction time frame.
KDOT awarded the $4.1 million construction contract to Venture Corporation of Great Bend.
Weather permitting, the project will be complete by November 30.
