UPDATE: Russell Man Dies While Helping Another Motorcyclist

Pedestrian KilledA Russell man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while trying to upright a motorcycle on US Highway 281 two miles south of Hoisington on Saturday night.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 46-year-old Julian H. Gonzales of Russell was standing in the roadway attempting to upright a motorcycle when he was struck by a southbound GMC pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Kadie Halzle of St. John. It happened shortly before 10pm.

Gonzales was taken to Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington where he died. Halzle was not injured. 

The Kansas Highway Patrol says Gonzales had stopped to help another motorcyclist who had lost control and laid over his bike in the west ditch. That person was 37-year-old Robert William Bruce, Jr. of Hoisington.

Bruce was taken to Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington by private vehicle for possible injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

Funeral services for Julian H. Gonzales will be held on Thursday in Russell. For more details, CLICK HERE.
