Resurfacing of US-281/K-18 in Russell County to Begin Next Week
- Published on Wednesday, 24 October 2012 14:14
Next week, a job to repave a section of US Highway 281/Kansas Highway 18 in Russell County is scheduled to begin.
The job will begin at the west junction of K-18 and continue on US-281 to the east junction of K-18.
The scope includes first milling 2.5 inches of existing pavement and then inlaying a 1.5-inch lift of asphalt. After this is completed, an additional 1.5-inch lift of asphalt will be applied to complete the paving operation, according to Kansas Department of Transportation officials.
Flaggers and a pilot car operation will guide one-lane traffic through the work zone during daylight hours. Delays of 15 minutes or less should be expected through the construction time frame.
KDOT awarded the nearly $1.5 million construction contract to APAC Kansas, Inc. of Hutchinson.
This repaving project is funded by T-WORKS, the Transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May of 2010; and designed to create jobs, preserve highway infrastructure, and spur economic development opportunities across the state.
Weather permitting, this construction job will be complete by mid-November.
