City of Russell to Eliminate Phone Calls to Delinquent Accounts

City of Russell LogoThe Russell City Council recently gave permission to City of Russell financial employees to eliminate time and resource consuming phone calls to delinquent accounts beginning January 1.

Under the current system, after a second unpaid bill is sent to a customer, city officials begin calling the customer 11 days after its issuance. Russell City Clerk and Treasurer Sheldon Hamilton says the new system will simply put a termination of service date on the second bill, and the change should streamline the process.

"A lot of times we spend several hours a month calling people - sometimes it's as many as a couple hundred people for payments - so this will give us extra time as well," said Hamilton.
