Two Men Injured in Wreck North of Russell After Swerving to Miss Deer Herd

Two men from Downs were transported to Russell Regional Hospital by ambulance after they were involved in a wreck on US Highway 281 north of Russell Monday morning when the driver swerved to try to avoid a herd of deer on the roadway.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 42-year-old Timothy Horacek and 41-year-old Gary Horacek were traveling southbound on 281 approximately 10 miles north of Russell when, at around 6:30 AM, the driver swerved to miss a herd of deer in the roadway. The vehicle went off the east edge of the roadway and down a steep embankment, coming to rest on its wheels in a dry creek bed.
The 2006 Dodge pickup involved in the crash was towed by A&D Towing and both men involved were wearing their seat belts at the time of the wreck.
Extent of any injuries sustained is unknown.
