The Russell County Commission met Monday in regular session to receive updates from several county departments as well as learn more about the possibility of installation of wind power transmission lines in the county.
Adhar Johnson of Cleanline Energy addressed the Commissioners Monday to get their thoughts on possible transmission line routes from wind farms in Ford County in southwest Kansas to Illinois and Indiana that might pass through Russell County.
Commissioner Steve Boxberger says the talks are only in the preliminary stages.
"He came in and gave us a little bit of an update on how their project is progressing and showed us a map on some proposed routes," Boxberger said. "They've got a lot of homework to do yet before anything goes in the ground."
Other items of discussion at Monday's Russell County Commission meeting included possible fire truck repairs or upgrades for the Gorham and Dorrance Fire Departments, personnel updates from Jennifer Cisneros of Russell County EMS and Sheriff John Fletcher, and a monthly report from Emergency Manager Keith Haberer, who gave the Commissioners information about recent emergency training and exercises that have been taking place.Read More Local News
