The legislators for the Kansas House of Representatives were notified December 20 of their committee appointments by the office of Speaker-Elect Ray Merrick, according to a recent press release. Waymaster, representative-elect for the 109th Kansas House, was selected to serve on the Agriculture and Natural Resources Budget Committee, the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, and the Federal and State Affairs Committee.
The representative-elect from Russell County will be sworn in and assume office on January 14, 2013 at 2 PM in the chamber of the Kansas House of Representatives at the Capitol Building in Topeka.
Waymaster says he made the decision to run for election to the House several months ago because of his viewpoints on the state budget and his hopes to eliminate wasteful spending.
"Regardless of what administration was in power, the Kansas budget had always been seen as being very tight," Waymaster said. "I think we need to do something budgetary wise, as far as for the state of Kansas. That was the main reason why I wanted to get involved, because you see some wasteful spending, you see dollars being spent in other areas when you would like to see those dollars spent in other areas of state, particularly in my district, which covers a very rural area of the state of Kansas."
Waymaster grew up on a local farm and graduated from Russell High School in 1996.Read More Local News
