Quinday Pleased with City Crew's Effort

City of Russell LogoLarge snow accumulation and cold temperatures coupled with the New Years holiday made for a long last few days for City of Russell road and maintenance crews.

Interim City Manager Jon Quinday says overall he was very pleased with the city's response to remove snow from local roadways and he thanks the employees of the city for their hard work.

"We actually called some people off of vacation on New Years Eve to come start working on the roads with the emergency snow routes," Quinday said. "A lot of people don't realize those crews also have to clean the airport runway and make it available for aircraft, for example life flights - if somebody had to be life watched out of here."

The emergency snow routes, Highways 281 and 40, the airport and Main Street all have to be safe and passable before crews begin work on residential side streets.

Quinday also said many of the road crew workers run sanitation routes and have other jobs with city, so especially during times of holiday, that sometimes makes it difficult as well.
