Three Organizations Receive Financial Gifts from Local Church Fund

SKIP Receives St Johns FundingSt. John Lutheran Church of Russell has announced three recipients of financial gifts from its newly formed Philanthropic Fund.

According to a release from the church, after being the recipient of several large gifts within the past couple years, the congregation decided a year ago to invest a portion of any significant gifts received into a Philanthropic Fund. Then each year, the congregation would give away a portion of the income received from this investment.

Throughout the year the Church Council asks for non-profit nominees. These nominees are then narrowed down to three finalists to receive monies from St. John Lutheran Church at the Council's December meeting. The finalists are voted upon by the St. John Lutheran Church congregation at its annual meeting.

The funds are prorated according to the vote and no ministry nominee may be named a finalist more than two consecutive years.

The recipients of this year's vote are the Russell County Food Pantry, Post Rock Family Services and SKIP (Summer Kids Intervention Program).
