Stannard Retires from Extension Agency

John StannardLongtime Russell County K-State Research and Extension Agent John Stannard retired from his position on Monday, February 18 and says the decision was bittersweet.

Stannard, who served as the Russell County Agriculture Extension Agent for 17 years, said Monday he's very thankful of the opportunities he had while serving and he's proud that he was able to mentor so many area young people.

While Stannard says he will definitely miss the job, on the other hand, he also says retirement is exciting and he plans on staying busy.

"I plan on doing volunteer work," said Stannard. "My first volunteer job is fundraising chairman for the FFA Alumni to send four young people to Scotland. I plan on being more active as a sport fishing leader in the 4-H program and in the master gardener program."

Stannard's last day as Extension Agent - Monday, February 18 - is also his birthday.
