Teen Injured in Weekend Wreck

CrashA 13-year-old girl from Ellis was injured late Saturday night in a wreck on Interstate 70 near Sylvan Grove when the driver, her father, fell asleep at the wheel and lost control of the vehicle.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Brittany Bollig was taken to Ellsworth County Medical Center after suffering unspecified injuries. Her condition is unknown. The driver, 43-year-old Michael James Bollig also of Ellis, was uninjured.

The wreck happened at westbound I-70 mile marker 209, or about a mile east of the Sylvan Grove exit, in Ellsworth County at 10:30 PM Saturday.

The KHP says the vehicle, a 2004 Ford Explorer SUV, drifted off the north side of the roadway and struck a guard rail after the driver fell asleep. The vehicle then overturned in the north ditch and came to rest on its right side.

Both occupants were buckled up.
