Russell County Commission Discusses Freedom Fest, Excavator Purchase

Russell County CourthouseThe Russell County Commission addressed a change of venues for Russell's July 4 Freedom Fest and talked about purchasing a used excavator, among other topics, at its regular meeting on Monday, March 4.

Commissioner Brad Zweifel says this year's Freedom Fest, formally known as Freedom Fireworks, will utilize two sites so a large concert at the event can be accommodated.

"Part of it will be held at the VFW and part of it will be held out at the fairgrounds with a concert," Zweifel said. "It sounds like a really good idea and will benefit all."

Freedom Fest organizers Micky Johnson and Traci Wieger presented the information to the Commissioners.

Also at the meeting Monday, the Commissioners approved the purchase of a used excavator for the County Road and Bridge Department as well as received a monthly report from Emergency Management Director Keith Haberer.
