Preston Named Russell Fire Chief

Fire Chief Shane PrestonShane Preston has been selected as the Fire Chief for the City of Russell with his appointment being effective May 1.

He replaces Interim Fire Chief Steve Knopp and retired former Fire Chief Sam Schmidt.

Preston has worked for the City of Russell Fire Department since 2004, where he served as Firefighter and Lieutenant before being promoted to Fire Captain in 2007.

He is a life-long Kansan, who grew up in Alma and attended college at NCK Tech in Beloit where he earned an associate degree in automotive technology. Preston and his wife Shanda have resided in Russell for the past eight years.

He has attained national certification as Firefighter 1 and 2, Driver and Pumper, Aerial Operator, Haz-Mat Operations, and Incident Command for Expanding Incidents.

Preston will take the Oath of Office at 9 AM on Wednesday, May 1 in the council chambers at the City Building. The public is invited to attend.
