Russell County Now Under a Burn Ban

Burn BanThe Russell County Commission voted two-to-one Monday to place a burn ban on the entire county and assess the situation in two weeks at its next regular meeting on May 20.

The decision came toward the end of the Commissioners meeting on Monday afternoon after a concern of fire danger was received by a telephone call during the meeting from Russell Grant Fire Chief Don Boxberger. Commissioner Alan Kuntzsch says the decision was also prompted by a controlled burn set Monday just east of Russell near Highway 40 that got out of control and caused several county fire departments to respond.

Commissioners Kuntzsch and Brad Zweifel voted for the ban, while Steve Boxberger cast the opposing vote.

Also addressed at the Commissioners meeting were preliminary budget talks with Amy Boxberger of Community Corrections and Dennis Becking from Options: Domestic and Sexual Violence Services. Both groups receive funding from the county.

Repairs to several county bridges were approved as well and a couple brief executive sessions were held to discuss personnel issues.
