Controlled Burn Monday Near Russell Becomes Out of Control, Results in Large Fire

Several Russell County fire departments and rescue and law enforcement units responded to a large fire just east of the city of Russell Monday afternoon after the previously controlled burn became out of control.
According to the police report, the burn, which originally consisted of broken straw bales, was called in and approved at just after 7:45 Monday morning. However, at 4 o'clock that afternoon, the Russell Grant Fire Department was called out to the 2300 Block of East Highway 40 where the fire was located because it had gotten out of control.
Russell City, Gorham and Rural District 5 Fire Departments also ended up responding to the blaze that was extinguished in about an hour. Russell County EMS, Russell County Sheriff's Deputies and City of Russell Police Officers responded as well.Read More Local News
