Waterline Project Slowed, but Progressing

City of Russell LogoA project to replace several underground waterlines in the midsection of Russell is about 60 percent complete according to local officials.

Russell Public Works Director Arlyn Unrein says the upgrade, unofficially titled the Elm Street Waterline Project, began late last year and was expected to be near its completion by this time, but heavy snows and other unfavorable weather conditions have slowed the progress of the project slightly.

The purpose of the project is to replace much of the older cast iron water piping in the downtown Elm, Kansas and Main Street areas with new plastic piping that will increase efficiency and reduce the amount of leaks.
