According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 44-year-old Steven Johnson and 43-year-old wife Kristen Johnson, both of Colorado Springs, were traveling eastbound and passing a semi truck on I-70 at mile marker 194 at just after 6 o'clock Sunday evening when the camper trailer being pulled by their 2004 Ford SUV became unstable. The vehicle then entered the median and the driver, who was Mr. Johnson, over corrected and entered the south ditch rolling several times. The camper trailer broke free from the SUV and landed upright facing southwest. The vehicle landed on its roof facing southwest.
Steven was not injured, but Kristen and six juveniles that were also riding in the vehicle, ranging in age from 6 to 18, were injured and taken to Russell Regional Hospital. Kristen was later life-flighted to Via Christi in Wichita. Her condition, as well as the extent of injuries to any of her children, is unknown.
The KHP says everyone in the vehicle at the time of the wreck was buckled up.Read More Local News
