Preston: Stay Hydrated in Heat, Don't Forget Your Pets

ThermometerRussell Fire Chief Shane Preston reminds local folks to be mindful of your health and safety during extreme heat snaps this summer, and he also stresses the importance of caring for your outdoor pets as well.

He says if you have to work outside, try to get things done in the morning or evening, and if that's not possible, always drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks.

With temperatures and heat indices reaching and exceeding the century mark recently, Preston says taking steps to stay hydrated could save your life.

Not only is having fresh water for your pets important, but giving them sufficient shade in their pen is also crucial.
