State Legislators Tour Russell County

Legislators at Land PrideRussell County Economic Development and Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted a legislative tour with State Senator Elaine Bowers and State Representative Troy Waymaster on Monday, July 22.

Joining in the tour were representatives from Russell County, City of Russell and Sunflower Electric.

The day started with a tour at the Land Pride division of Great Plains Manufacturing in Lucas. Plant Manager Les Schneider provided a tour and description of services and product development.

The group then traveled the Post Rock Scenic Byway to Russell, where they toured both city electric plants, hosted by Russell Electric Utilities Director Duane Banks. Banks shared the history of the facilities and updates on current projects.

To complete the tour, the group gathered at Meridy's Restaurant to discuss current issues facing Kansas Legislators and local issues facing rural communities and businesses. Also attending the luncheon were representatives from the Russell Chamber of Commerce and Russell Main Street, Inc.

According to Russell County Eco Devo and CVB Executive Director Janae Talbott, opportunities such as this provide our elected representatives the opportunity to learn about local industries, communities and programs. These opportunities also lead to new opportunities for additional exposure for local businesses and communities.
