Rooks County Teen Killed in Head-On Collision

Fatal CrashA 16-year-old boy is dead after a crash in Rooks County Tuesday morning. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, it happened just west of Plainville on K-18 at around 5:25 AM.

KHP says a pickup, driven by 16-year-old Acetin Benedick was headed east when it crossed the center line and went into a ditch. Benedick overcorrected and struck an oncoming truck head-on.

Benedick was life-flighted to Wichita for treatment, but died from his injuries.

The driver and passenger in the truck were taken to the Rooks County Health Center in critical condition.

Benedick, a Plainville High School football player, was on his way to football practice.

He had just transferred back to Plainville for his junior year after attending junior high and high school in eastern Kansas. Counselors will be on hand at Plainville High on Wednesday, the first day of school.

This is the fourth fatal accident involving a Kansas high school football player this summer.
