County Commissioners Sign Bridge Agreement

With an official signing at the Russell County Courthouse on Monday, Russell and Rush County Commissioners have reached an agreement to replace a historic bridge that sits on the Russell/Rush County line.
A topic of much dispute between the two counties over the last couple years because of the bridge's historic status and limestone structure, but also its severe state of disrepair, was finally resolved Monday by a compromise to replace, and not repair, the bridge.
Russell County Commissioner Brad Zweifel says it was going to cost the taxpayers of Russell and Rush Counties nearly $200,000 to repair the bridge.
Not only is the replacement project cheaper, Zweifel says it also just makes more sense.
A specific project timeline has not been set, but county crews hope to have the bridge replaced by the end of the year.
Other topics discussed at Monday's meeting included presentations from Amy Boxberger with Community Corrections and Jerry Michaud with DSNWK. Also, longtime County Treasurer Judy Corley announced her retirement.
