Russell Man Injured in Crash Involving Three Vehicles

Front St Wreck 1 10-12-13A Russell man was taken to the hospital and three vehicles were severely damaged Saturday night in Russell following two head-on collisions in the 500 Block of South Front Street.

According to Russell Police Chief Dale Weimaster, Gene Miller of Russell was transported by ambulance to Russell Regional Hospital after being involved in two head-on collisions at around 8:45 PM Saturday. Miller's condition is unknown at this time.

The first crash occurred when Miller, driving a 2007 Saturn SUV, crossed the center line while traveling south on Front and collided with a 2004 Pontiac sedan driven by Bailey Becker of Russell that was northbound.

The jolt of the collision sent the Pontiac off the roadway, across the east ditch and into a chain-link fence.

The second crash happened when Stephanie Cross of Russell, driving a 2005 Toyota minivan northbound on Front, happened upon the scene and struck Miller's Saturn head-on as it had stalled in the roadway.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene.

Russell Police Officers, Russell County EMS, the Russell City Fire Rescue Unit, a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper and a Russell County Sheriff's Deputy responded to the crash.
