Pheasant Population Slightly Down Experts Say

Pheasant HuntingExperts across the state say Kansas pheasant numbers are down this year and hunters are less likely to see as many of the birds as usual when the season begins this weekend.

State wildlife experts say drought during most of the nesting and brooding season, combined with an already low breeding population, will make it more difficult to find birds this season, which begins Saturday.

However, Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Biologist Scott Waters says hunting should be pretty fair in the Russell area.

Waters reminds folks about hunter safety as well.

According to Waters and opposite of pheasant numbers, this year's quail crop should be up.
