Russell City Council Continues Water Discussions

Russell City Council 2013 JuneRussell City Councilmembers met Tuesday afternoon for their regular monthly meeting where they discussed several topics; one topic of note once again was water.

Russell Public Works Director Arlyn Unrein reported Big Creek is once again flowing - at least for now - and the city is currently able to pump water from it. However, a presentation by City Manager Jon Quinday showed the wells in Russell's Pfeifer Well Field remain low and unstable.

Unrein says a project that the city has been working on now for some time to add a new well - Well #11 - to the Pfeifer Well Field and expand it is nearing completion.

At Tuesday's meeting, the Council approved the first pay request for the project, which totaled just over $183,000.

Other items discussed and approved at the meeting included a one dollar hike for all golf course greens fees, a land transfer agreement with 5700 Holdings LLC for the purpose of development of land between 12th Street and the railroad tracks just east of Fossil Street, a land transfer and easement agreement with C12 Energy for use of land in the industrial park and along the east side of Russell for pipeline routes, and an updating of the city personnel policy.

Councilmembers also approved the purchase of parts to repair an electrical transformer at the 12th Street Sub-Station; a project that will cost about $31,000.
