USD 407 BOE Discusses State Funding, MINUTES NOW INCLUDED

USD 407 BOEThe USD 407 Board of Education discussed state education finances, the possibility of a significant drop in revenue and how that will affect the school district here in Russell County.

Because of education funding cuts and new tax laws, USD 407 Superintendent Dave Couch says the state has quite a hole to dig themselves out of right now.

Couch says, just this year, state officials borrowed $143 million from the transportation fund to help fund K-12 education.

Also at Monday's meeting, the Board passed a resolution in support of the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards, formerly known as Common Core.

Couch says there has been some backlash toward the proposed standards, but he feels they are solid.

The Board continued talks on establishing a 1-to-1 tablet or laptop initiative as well at Monday's meeting. Couch and the Board hope to have a program in place by the start of the next school year, but are currently still researching various types of tablets and laptops.
