This week, Feb. 19-25, is Food Check-Out Week.
Food Check-Out Week, involving Farm Bureaus at the county, state and national level, celebrates the abundance and safety of food. The third full week of February was selected as a bridge to National Nutrition Month in March.
The Russell County Farm Bureau chose Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to recognize Food Check-Out Week. Russell County Farm Bureau members will be at both entry doors at Klema's Applie Market in Russell to explain to the customers when they exit, Farm Bureau will give them a nickel for each loaf of bread they buy, as this represents the amount a farmer actually receives per loaf.
Boxes will be at Klema's for the Russell Food Pantry. By donating a non perishable item, you will receive a cloth shopping bag.
