Half-Cent Sales Tax Benefits Economic Development, Tourism, Capital Improvements

Russell County Economic Development and CVBThe Russell County-wide half-cent sales tax up for renewal on April 1 greatly benefits local economic development and capital improvement projects as well as provides funding for a growing tourism market say local officials.

The tax, which will be on the April 1 election ballot for renewal, has been in place for 10 years. The funds collected are distributed throughout Russell County and its communities.

Russell County Economic Development and Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Janae Talbott says the tax provides funding for programs that bring businesses and business people to Russell County.

Special events and tourism also benefit says Talbott.

Capital improvements around the county, such as the planned courthouse addition project, are paid for by the tax as well, allowing building projects of that magnitude to take place without any mill levy adjustment.
