Roadwork to Begin in Russell, Osborne Counties

Road Work AheadWeather permitting, on Monday, March 24, a resurfacing project will begin on a 22 mile stretch of U.S. 281 from Luray to Osborne.

The scope of the project is to mill the existing pavement and overlay with one and a half inches of new asphalt.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by flaggers and a pilot car during daylight hours. Minor delays should be expected during construction, not exceeding 15 minutes.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and "Give 'Em a Brake!" when approaching and driving through the construction zone.

KDOT awarded this construction contract – totaling $1,837,000 – to APAC Kansas, Inc. The scheduled completion date for the project is late April, 2014, weather permitting.

This project is funded by TWORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010.

For questions concerning the project, please contact KDOT Area One Construction Engineer Jim Riener at 785-543-2163 or [email protected]
