Senator Bob Dole Receives National Veterans Award

Bob DoleFormer Senator and Russell native Bob Dole has received the 2014 National Veterans Award for his service during World War II and in the U.S. Congress.

The Award was established in 1954 by fellow Kansan President Dwight Eisenhower.

Notable recipients include President Eisenhower, Gen. Omar Bradley, Lt. Gen. James Doolittle, Jimmy Stewart, Sen. Barry Goldwater and others.

Former Kansas Congressman Ed Rees was the author of legislation designating November 11 as Veterans Day.
