The award was presented Tuesday night at the Dream Theater during the annual National Weather Service Spotter Meeting.
Boxberger is a member of the Russell-Grant Township Fire Department. He started as a volunteer in 1976 and in 1982 he took over the reins as Chief and still holds this position. He can always be relied on to respond at all hours of the day or night. He has been instrumental in ensuring the only township fire department in Russell County has access to up-to-date equipment, apparatus and training.
Boxberger has also been a 10-year member and past president on the Russell County Free Fair Board. He is an active member of the Russell Shrine Club, holding all elected positions over the years. He continues to ensure the 2nd Grade classes of Russell elementary schools are able to attend the ISIS Shrine Circus for free every year and that each student attending is able to purchase a souvenir. Boxberger has been a member of the Russell Masonic Lodge and ISIS Shrine since 2002 and is a two-time past Potentate of ISIS Shrine. In addition, he is a board member for the Kansas Shrine Bowl and currently serves as Secretary of the Board.
