USD 407 BOE Hears Facilities Study Findings, MINUTES NOW INCLUDED

USD 407 BOEA presentation regarding an ongoing facilities study of USD 407 buildings dominated Monday evening's discussion at the regular monthly meeting of the Russell County Board of Education.

Mark Regier of Jones Gillam Renz, an architectural firm from Salina, presented findings Monday of a facilities study he conducted of all five existing district buildings. He detailed several improvements that need to be made to each building, such as heating and cooling, accessibility and electrical.

Superintendent Dave Couch says he, the administrators and the Board will study the findings more in the coming weeks and compare the costs of doing the renovations to the existing buildings to constructing a new facility.

Also Monday, the Board briefly discussed the impact of recent education legislation on local funding. As the proposed bill stands, Couch says USD 407 might receive slightly more funding per pupil next year, but it is in question how it would offset other losses.

Two new contracts were approved Monday as well. Michael Davidson will be the new vocal music teacher at the high school and middle school and Donald Fenwick will be next year's head volleyball coach at the high school.
