Russell City Council Signs Letter of Intent Agreement with Hays

At a special meeting Friday afternoon, the Russell City Council voted unanimously to sign a letter of intent agreement with the City of Hays regarding the development of the R9 Ranch as a water supply source.
The R9 Ranch wellfield, located in Edwards County south of Kinsley, is jointly owned by Hays and Russell. Hays officials explained to Russell City Councilmembers Tuesday, April 15 in Russell that Hays submitted the letter of intent to Russell to see if the two cities together wanted to seriously look at developing the R9 Ranch as a regional water source.

While the R9 Ranch should be a long-term solution, Mayor Curt Mader says Russell needs to also keep looking for short-term solutions.
Also at Friday's special meeting, a bid was awarded to a company from Missouri for the citywide installation of the newly purchased automatic meter reading (AMR) system water meters.
