5-23-14 Hydroplaning Wreck 1No major injuries were reported from a hydroplaning accident Friday afternoon on Interstate 70 that happened just a few feet east of the Russell exit.

Russell County Sheriff's Officers, Russell County EMS and the Russell City Fire Rescue Unit were dispatched Friday at about 12:45 PM to a single-vehicle wreck just past the top of the I-70 onramp at mile marker 184. The Kansas Highway Patrol also responded.

According to Russell City Fire Chief Shane Preston, the SUV was entering eastbound I-70 on the ramp when it hydroplaned, slid into the south ditch, went through a fence and came to a stop against a tree row facing west.

Information regarding the identities of the vehicle's occupants was not available at the scene. Again, no major injuries were reported.
