Russell County Fireworks Ban Lifted

Russell County Commissioners 3-17-14The Russell County Commissioners voted to lift the Russell County fireworks ban for the July 4 weekend at their regular meeting Monday.

Commissioner Steve Boxberger says the discharge of fireworks will be allowed in unincorporated areas of the county from Friday, July 4 through Sunday, July 6, and then after that, the fireworks ban will be put back in place.

The sale of fireworks in the county was never banned. And again, this only applies to unincorporated, rural areas; not any towns or cities.

Also Monday, the Commissioners approved the purchase of a used loader for the road and bridge department and discussed the courthouse addition with Architect Mark Regier of Jones Gillam Renz. Boxberger said they hope to begin the bid process for the addition later this month.

The Commissioners also talked about ongoing problems with unbagged trash and yard debris coming to the Russell County Landfill. Boxberger said it is a requirement to have your trash bagged and please call ahead if it is windy, because the landfill might be closed.
