USD 407 Mill Levy Will Decrease

Superintendent Dave Couch presented an overview of the proposed budget to the Board at the meeting.
Couch says the mill levy will drop slightly next year.
That decrease of 0.246 mills comes after the Board recently approved increasing the Local Option Budget, or LOB as Couch said, from 31 percent to 33. The Board was allowed to make that change following the passage of a Kansas House bill regarding local taxing authority.
Couch explains even with that mill levy decrease, the district will have a higher budget authority, because losses to the general fund will be offset by the LOB increase.
A public budget hearing will be held at the next regular meeting of the Board in August. Official approval will be given in August.
Also Thursday, Board Members approved the student tablet loan agreement for the 1:1 initiative. Students will pay a deposit of $50 to use the tablets.
The Board also finalized handbooks for the upcoming school year.
