Motorcycle Crash at Russell I-70 Exit Injures Virginia Couple

Motorcycle CrashA Virginia man and woman were injured Friday evening just south of Russell in a motorcycle versus semi crash.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at 7:40 PM Friday, a 2006 Yamaha driven by 65-year-old Thomas Richard Cooke of Hampton, Virginia was turning left from the eastbound Interstate 70 off ramp at exit 184 onto US Highway 281 south of Russell.

Cooke failed to yield to a 2003 Freightliner semitruck that was northbound on 281. Cooke collided with the truck's trailer.

He and a passenger on the motorcycle, 63-year-old Stacye Lynn Cooke also of Hampton, were transported to Russell Regional Hospital and later air lifted to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita.

The semi driver, 53-year-old Steven W. Snyder of Wichita, was not injured.

The KHP reported all involved were properly restrained.
