Election Results Canvassed, Finalized

Russell County Commissioners 3-17-14The Russell County Commissioners met Monday to canvass and finalize the results from last week's primary election.

There were a few changes regarding the total number of votes cast, but no election results were changed as a result of the canvass.

In other business, the Commissioners discussed the possibility of reinstating a countywide burn ban.

Discussions with the county's various fire chiefs had been held within the last week to see what they thought. Some were in favor of a burn ban and some were not.

The Commissioners decided to do nothing Monday and will readdress the question next week at their regular meeting on August 18.

Also, Mark Carter was present to ask the Commissioners permission to set off fireworks with his family and friends on Labor Day weekend.

The Commissioners voted to lift the current countywide fireworks ban for all unincorporated areas on Saturday, August 30 from 8 PM to midnight. Until that date and time, and then after that date and time, the fireworks ban will remain in place. Only the discharge of fireworks will be allowed, not the sale. And again, this only applies to unincorporated areas of the county.
