Russell Receives Ladder Fire Truck

Ladder 1 March 2016The Russell City Fire Department received a used ladder fire truck March 29 that the Russell City Council approved the purchase of last year.

An inspection last year of the city's former ladder fire truck found many serious deficiencies and the truck was taken out of service in February of 2015.

Fire Chief Shane Preston immediately began the nationwide search for a replacement and struck out a few times, but eventually found this truck through a company called Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus.

It's a 15-year-old truck, but Preston says it and the new Engine 2 purchased a couple years ago will serve the city well.

The ladder truck was repainted and striped to match Engine 2. It features a 100-foot aerial boom.

Over the next several weeks, firefighters will be training with it and getting it in service.
