Rural Firefighters Respond to Tank Battery Fire

Tank Battery Fire 5-2-18Lightning caused a tank battery fire in southeast Russell County Wednesday afternoon.

According to dispatch logs, at 4:08 PM Wednesday, Russell Dispatch received a 911 call from a woman advising she could see a lot of flames south of 195th and Winterset Road.

Russell County Sheriff's Officers responded and located a tank battery on fire at 197th and Stickney Road, which is about two miles northwest of Dubuque near the Barton County line.

Russell County Rural Fire Department District 5 from Bunker Hill was advised and responded. The fire was extinguished.

At 8:38 PM Wednesday, a male motorist called Dispatch to report the tank battery had rekindled as well as some grass.

RFD5 and Dorrance Firefighters responded and the fire was extinguished again.

There were no injuries.
