Russell City Council Discusses FAA Grant Application, Dangerous Structures

Russell City Council 1-2-18The Russell City Council met Tuesday and discussed a Federal Aviation Administration grant application, moving an emergency generator to the Main Power Plant, removal of dangerous structures and the 2019 budget.

The FAA grant application is for a project to replace the runway and taxiway lighting at the Russell Municipal Airport.

The Council approved a motion Tuesday to apply for the grant, and if successful, the FAA will pay most of the project cost according to Russell Public Works Director Rich Krause.

Also Tuesday, the Council approved a motion to move an emergency generator to the Main Power Plant.

Much of the discussion at Tuesday's meeting centered around removal of dangerous structure resolutions.

The Council held public hearings for dangerous structures at 135 South Front, 501 East Wisconsin and 327 West 11th Streets.

Following further discussion, the Council voted to remove the dangerous structures at 135 South Front and 327 West 11th Streets. The property owner of 501 East Wisconsin was given 120 days to repair the property.

The enterprise funds portion of the 2019 budget was also discussed Tuesday.
