Wilson Splits with Thunder Ridge

WILSON-Tristan Soukup scored 17 points and Ethan Dlabal added 12 as the Wilson Dragons defeated Thunder Ridge 50-37 in Northern Plains League action Friday.  The Wilson Girls fell earlier to the Longhorns 55-25.

In the Girls game, Thunder Ridge jumped out to a 10-2 lead after one quarter.  The Lady Dragons pulled to within 10-8 early in the secnod period thanks to six quick points by senior Kaleigh Hanzlick the last three coming on a three-point play.  After that Thunder Ridge scored the final 17 points of the half to lead 27-8 at intermission.

After extending the lead to 49-13 lead after three quarters, the Longhorns (6-2, 4-0) played most of the fourth quarter with reserves and a running clock allowing Wilson to put up 12 points.  Thunder Ridge's Brennan Kirchhoff led all scorers with 13 points while Elizabeth Hardacre added 11.  Hanzlick led Wilson (2-6, 1-3) with eight points.

In the Boys game, the two teams battled through a turnover-filled first eight minutes as Wilson held an 11-9 lead. The Dragons extended their lead to 24-17 at halftime despite both Soukup and Dlabal having to head to the bench with three fouls each.  The two players remained on the bench for the first three minutes of the second half and Thunder Ridge cut Wilson's lead to 29-27.  When Soukup and Dlabal re-entered, the Dragons widened their advantage to 42-29 after three quarters.  From there, Wilson was able to finish off their sixth consecutive win.

Soukup led Wilson (6-3, 4-0) with 17 points while Dlabal added 12.  Reece Struckhoff of Thunder Ridge (2-6, 2-3) led all scorers with 20 points.

Wilson now prepares for the Northern Plains League Tournament next week in Lincoln and Sylvan Grove.  The Wilson Girls are the #10 seed and will face #7 Lakeside Monday at 5 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School with the winner facing #2 Sylvan-Lucas Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Lincoln High School.  The Boys are the #5 seed and will take on #12 Lincoln Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Lincoln High School and will face either #4 Lakeside or #13 Tescott on Tuesday.
