SYLVAN GROVE - Cadence Nondorf and Sasha Albert scored eight points apiece as the Sylvan-Lucas Lady Mustangs bolted out to an early lead and never looked back in a 42-3 win over Natoma Tuesday evening, January 14 at Sylvan-Lucas Unified High School.

Sylvan-Lucas scored the game's first 10 points before settling for a 12-2 lead after one quarter.  The lead swelled to 28-2 at halftime and 40-2 after three quarters.  Neither team attempted a free throw during the entire first half and only six were attempted for the whole game.

The Mustangs (4-2, 3-0 NPL) had eight different players score.  Natoma (0-8, 0-4 NPL) got all their points from Raylyn Paget.

In the boys game, Sylvan-Lucas overcame a slow start with a strong finish to the first quarter and hung on to win over the Tigers 32-25.

Natoma bolted out to a 5-0 lead in the game's opening minutes and led 7-2 before Sylvan-Lucas rode a 13-0 run for a 17-9 lead after the first eight minutes.  The Tigers drew closer in the second quarter but still trailed 22-18 at intermission.  Both teams were sluggish in the second half with the Mustangs maintaining a lead which swelled to as much as nine points before Jayson Engling hit a three-pointer to cut the Tiger deficit to 30-24 in the game's final two minutes.  However, Alex Hernandez clinched the victory for Sylvan-Lucas with a jumper in the lane moments later.

Sylvan-Lucas (7-0, 3-0 NPL) was paced by eight points apiece from Beau Batchman and Jonah Huehl while the Tigers (2-6, 1-3 NPL) were led by Jayson Engling's game-high 10 points.

Sylvan-Lucas will host Lakeside on Friday while Natoma visits Southern Cloud in the final tune-up for both teams before next week's Northern Plains League mid-season tournament.

The Sylvan-Lucas and Lakeside games will be broadcast on KRSL 95.9 FM and streamed on KRSL.com.
