Smoky Valley Defeats Russell Boys

The Russell High School boys basketball team fell 70-43 to Smoky Valley in a consolation semifinal matchup in the Sterling Invitational Tournament at the Gleason Center at Sterling College in Sterling on Tuesday, January 21.

Smoky Valley led 14-6 after one quarter, 33-14 at the half and 49-26 after three frames. The Broncos were unable to come back in the final stanza.

Ceaonte Walston paced Russell with 13 points and Jacob Sohm recorded 10 rebounds.

Trey Kennedy had a huge game for the Vikings, scoring 33 points and hitting seven three-point buckets. Johann Rauchholz followed with 10 points.

The rebounding battle was even at 30 rebounds for each team, but Smoky Valley out-rebounded Russell 15 to 8 on the offensive glass.

Russell falls to 2-8 overall.

The Broncos will next play against Kingman or Southeast of Saline at the Sterling High School south gym on Friday at around 4:30 PM in the tournament's seventh place game.
