St. John's-Tipton Too Much for Wilson

KRSL 959 Basketball GOW LogoBoys: St. John's-Tipton 58, Wilson 34

WILSON-Brady Palen scored 13 points to lead three St. John's-Tipton players in double figures as the Blujays used a strong second quarter and suffocating defense to pull away from Wilson 58-34 Friday evening in the Dragons' home gymnasium.

The two teams traded baskets early in the first quarter and Wilson led 6-5 before St. John's-Tipton closed the quarter with a 6-0 run to lead 11-6 after the first eight minutes.  In the second quarter, the Blujays turned up the heat defensively forcing numerous Wilson turnovers that led to baskets.  After the Dragons closed to within 15-14 with a 7-0 surge, St. John's-Tipton closed the first half on a 15-1 run to lead 30-15 at intermission.

The third quarter was a little more even but the Blujays were able to stretch the margin to 47-27 by the end of the period.  Palen then opened the fourth quarter with a steal at midcourt and a two-handed dunk to put an exclamation point on the Blujays' ninth victory in their last 11 games since losing to Russell at the Amos Morris Classic on December 14.

Joining Palen in double figures for St. John's-Tipton (11-4, 6-1 NPL) were Dalton Schmitt with 11 points and Braden Dameron with 10.  Westin Hughes paced Wilson (5-9, 1-5 NPL) with 15 points.

The Girls game was not played Friday evening as Wilson did not have enough players to field a team for the contest.
