Russell Swept on Winter Sports Night

The Russell High School girls basketball team fell 50-44 to Beloit on Friday, February 14 at Amos Morris Gym in Russell, snapping a four-game win streak.

The Lady Broncos led 14-11 after one quarter, but trailed 24-22 at halftime and 37-35 after three periods. Beloit's Shea Larson scored 11 points in the fourth stanza and the Lady Trojans held on for the win.

Rylan Reeves paced Russell with 12 points and 11 rebounds, her eighth double-double of the season. Aniya Stierlen followed with 11 points and 10 boards, her sixth double-double of the season.

Larson led Beloit with 25 points and Jessica Meier followed with 15 points.

The Russell girls fall to 7-11 overall and 4-6 in the NCAA.

The Beloit boys ran away from Russell and won 79-23.

The Trojans jumped out to a 22-2 lead after one period, led 47-16 at the break and 66-19 after three quarters. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock.

Jacob Sohm led Russell with nine points.

Hudson Gray paced Beloit with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Carson Cox scored 16 points, Bryce Mason scored 13 points and Vincent Palen finished with 11 points.

The Russell boys fall to 2-16 overall and 0-10 in the league.

The Russell girls and boys return to action on Friday, February 21 at Southeast of Saline. The girls game tips off at 6 PM with the boys contest to follow. Catch both games on KRSL AM 990, 98.1 FM and KRSL.com.

Also, Friday was Winter Sports Night and Braden Flax and Whitley Leiker were crowned King and Queen.
