SYLVAN GROVE-Cadence Nondorf scored 15 points and Keeli Knobbe added 13 as the Sylvan-Lucas Lady Mustangs started fast and then held off a Wilson charge to eventually pull away for a 45-32 victory Friday evening in Northern Plains League action at Sylvan-Lucas Unified High School.

The Lady Mustangs raced out to a 16-0 lead and settled for a 16-2 advantage after the first eight minutes.  Then the Lady Dragons opened the second period with an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to 16-10 before Sylvan-Lucas regained their footing and pulled out to a 26-13 lead at intermission.  The third quarter was even as Sylvan-Lucas (12-5, 8-1 NPL) maintained their lead at 34-20 and then went on to their third win in the last four nights.

Wilson (6-10, 3-5 NPL) was led by Macy Hanzlick's 15 points while Cara Criswell chipped in with 11.

The Sylvan-Lucas Boys trailed just once in the game's opening minutes and then got hot as they rolled to a 56-40 over the Dragons.

The teams traded baskets early and Wilson held a 7-6 lead following a three-point bucket by Charlie Hlad.  After that the Mustangs closed out the quarter on a 17-6 run to lead 24-12 after the first eight minutes.  The Sylvan-Lucas onslaught continued in the second stanza as they rolled out to a 42-21 halftime cushion.  In the third quarter, Sylvan-Lucas built up their lead to 53-26 heading into the final period.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs had a chance to trigger a running clock but a three-point attempt by Jonah Huehl rattled out of the basket allowing Wilson the opportunity to finish the game with a dominating 14-3 quarter against the Sylvan-Lucas reserves.

Huehl led Sylvan-Lucas (14-3, 8-1 NPL) and all scorers with 22 points.  Wilson (6-11, 2-7 NPL) was led by Westin Hughes' 15 points while Garrett Thielen added 11, nine of those points were scored in the fourth quarter.

Lakeside is the next opponent for both teams with Sylvan-Lucas hosting the Knights on Monday, February 17 in a doubleheader postponed from January 17 and then Wilson will visit Lakeside on Tuesday, February 18.
