Russell Shut Down by Hoisington

RHS FootballThe Russell High School football team will miss the playoffs for the sixth-straight year after losing to Hoisington 42-12 on Friday, Oct. 19 at the HHS Field.

The Broncos fell behind 20-0 after the first quarter and never recovered.  Hoisington led 28-6 at halftime and 42-6 after three quarters.

Russell scored their first touchdown with 5:14 to go in the second quarter on a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Alex Baldwin.  The Broncos' second TD came with 5:14 remaining in the fourth quarter on a Keltonn Morris 10-yard run.

Hoisington outgained Russell 394-190 in total yards and forced the Broncos into three turnovers.

Morris led Russell with 62 yards rushing.  Dylan Walker, who came into the game with nearly 500 yards rushing, suffered an injury on the opening kickoff and was held to just 15 yards on four carries.  Alex Baldwin completed 4 of 5 passes for 64 yards.  Eric Rourke had three catches for 44 yards.

Chance Demel rushed for a game-high 193 yards and three touchdowns to lead Hoisington.

Russell falls to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in district play, while Hoisington improves to 4-4 and 1-1 in district play.

The Broncos close out the season on Thursday at home against Scott City.  The Beavers are 8-0 and ranked second in Class 3A.  Kickoff is at 7pm at Shaffer Field.  Countdown to Kickoff begins at 6:30pm on Classic Hits 95.9 and www.krsl.com.
